Continuing education gives these adults the opportunity to increase their knowledge about their own field or to learn about a new field. It also gives them a chance to improve their old skills or to learn new ones.
Continuing education classes give some adults the chance to learn new skills. There are usually many kinds of classes to choose from, foreign cooking, auto repair, or furniture repair. These are only some of the classes available.
Some adults take classes for fun or because the class will be useful for them. For example, they can choose a class in almost any language as a second language. There are classes in first aid or classes in sewing. There are also many other types of classes to choose from.
Other adults take continuing education classes to improve their own lives because they want to feel better about themselves. Overweight people can find exercise classes or classes in nutrition. Others can learn how to be good parents, or how to get along with other people.
There are many opportunities for adults to continue their learning. Almost any community college or public school system has a continuing education program. There are classes in schools, community buildings, or churches. Most classes are in the evening, so working people can attend. The classes are usually small, and they are inexpensive.
Thousands of people register for continuing education classes each year. They receive no diploma or certificate, and no grade for most of the classes they attend. For them, learning is something they do because they want to.

M: Do you mean that she doesn't seem ready for college? Then you'd better have a serious talk with her about college. To my mind it's quite normal for girls of her age to show a lot of interests in fashion and dating, but as a mother you have a right to expect her to pay attention to her studies too. You should ask her how serious she is about college and how hard she's willing to work for it. Jane may be much firmer than you realize. But if not, tell her she should think about putting college off for a while. That could give her the push she needs to take her education seriously. And if you decide she should wait, she can get a job or take classes at a community college. She may be just one of those who need to see a bit of real life before they settle down.
W: Sounds like a good idea.

M: Well, I really can't tell. Anyhow, I'm doing my best, working night and day.
W: So am I. Sometimes, I feel very tired, both physically and mentally.
M: I feel the same. I often suffer from headaches and general weakness. Not enough time for sleeping. I don't know what will become of me if it goes on like this for long.
W: And no time for sports, even music, not to mention films or TV programs. All we can see is exercises, exam papers and this sort of things.
M: It seems that to go to college is the only future we have.
W: Certainly not. Even if we can't go to college, we can take up many other jobs and do our bits for the society as well.
M: Quite right. But we'll get more knowledge after studying several years at college. That means we can work better for our country and people after graduation. In addition our parents lay great hope on us, and we shouldn't make them feel disappointed.

es of people in the world but if you go to a college campus, you are sure to find at least one of every kind. The great part about being here with so many different people is that you get to interact with some interesting characters and see how to deal with them. You will meet the people you dread the most, the smart-ass, the brain, or the unique spirit, but no matter who it is that is your worst nightmare to be around you will always be paired up with them in a group project. When you get into the real world you are not going to be able to pick your boss or coworkers. Interacting with these people in college and living with different roommates will help you learn how to cooperate with the people in life you find so unpleasant. College life is fun. The fact that I have been here for a short time just means it has not yet been a life changing experience to me. If I were to give any tips on how to survive, it would not be how to survive college, but how to survive life. I would have to say that one should be outgoing and live life to the fullest. Meet new people whenever you can because they just may be a major influence in your life. Also, get your work done before you go out and party. Lastly, I would have to say, in life if you ever feel lost or alone, talk to someone about it. Similarly, college classroom space should be designed to encourage the activity of critical thinking. We will move into the twenty-first century, but step into almost any college classroom and you will step back in time at least a hundred years. Desks are normally in straight rows, so students can clearly see the teacher but not all their classmates. The assumption behind such an arrangement is obvious: Everything important comes from the teacher.
With a little imagination and effort, unless desks are fixed to the floor, the teacher can correct this situation and create space that encourages interchanges among students. In small or standard-size classes, chairs, desks and tables can be arranged in different ways: circles, U-shapes, or semicircles. The primary goal should be for everyone to be able to see everyone else. Larger classes, particularly those held in lecture halls, unfortunately, allow much less flexibility.
Arrangement of the classroom should also make it easy to divide students into small groups for discussion or problem-solving exercises. Small classes with moveable desks and tables present no problem. Even in large lecture halls, it is possible for students to turn around and form. groups of four to six. Breaking a class into small groups provides more opportunities for students to interact with each other, think out hard, and see how other students' thinking processes operate all these are the most important elements in developing new modes of critical thinking.
In course that regularly use a small group format, students might be asked to stay in the same small groups throughout the course. A colleague of mine allows students to move around during the first two weeks, until they find a group they are comfortable with. He then asks them to stay in the same seat, with the same group, from then on. This not only creates a comfortable setting for interaction but helps him learn students' names and faces.
The expression "step back in time at least a hundred years" (Para.2) is intended to convey the idea that
A.college classrooms often remind people of their college life.
B.critical thinking was encouraged even a century ago.
C.a hundred years ago, desk arrangement in a classroom was quite different.
D.there is not much change in the college educational idea over the past hundred years.
